Yukai Daiko – Generation 9

Yukai Daiko would like to thank everyone who attended the fall 2012 trial period. We take great pride in teaching people with diverse musical talents and levels of musicianship the art of taiko, and fall quarter is the only time we are granted this opportunity. Each participant made a dynamic impression, and we hope that you all will continue to stay updated with our current events and come back next year.

The end of trial period marks the beginning of the taiko journey for the next generation of Yukai Daiko members. Yukai Daiko would like to welcome its 9th generation to the Yukai Daiko family:

Open House and Trial Period

Ever wanted to learn how to play taiko, or Japanese drumming? Want to meet new friends and check out a neat student group on campus? Then come visit Yukai at our annual Open House on Thursday, October 11 from 7 to 9 pm! Meet us at the Bruin Bear and we’ll tell you about who we are, what we do, and even perform a few of our songs.

At Open House, we’ll also tell you about our annual Trial Period, a series of twelve free workshops in which our members will teach you the fundamentals of playing taiko, as well as various pieces of our repertoire! At the end of trial period, applications will also be available for trialees interested in joining our group for the rest of the year. No previous experience is necessary for trial period, and all UCLA students are welcome!

Trial period workshops begin on Friday, October 12 and are offered Fridays from 7:45 to 10 pm and Saturdays from 9:45 am to 12 pm. Please meet us at the Bruin Bear and wear comfortable clothes. We hope to see you there!

Enormous Activities Fair and Bruin Plaza

Hello again from Yukai! Zero week is approaching at UCLA, and Yukai will be on campus so you can learn more about who we are, what we do and how you can play taiko with us.

Come find our table at the Enormous Activities Fair in UCLA’s Dickson Plaza on Monday, September 24 from 10 am-2 pm. We look forward to talking with you about Yukai and the opportunities we’ll provide this fall to learn and play taiko!

Also look for us on Tuesday, September 25 from 11 am-1:30 pm as we perform in Bruin Plaza! Come see what taiko looks and sounds like and learn more about how you can get involved in Yukai this year.

We’re excited to be starting a brand new school year next week at UCLA and can’t wait for all the new and interesting adventures that await us in our ninth year of playing taiko. Hope to see you there!
