Inv06[0] = "Raphael here. Mark asked me to do make a photojournal of sorts for Invitational. I hope it's amusing to you to. I guess invitational really started as soon as everyone was collected in Parking Lot 4. We just had to wait for Stanford and boom! We were off towards UC Riverside."
Inv06[1] = "Invitational was a chance to experience other types of Taiko. This is a photograph of myself (taken by Janelle) modelling the proper use of a very portable taiko drum - well, perhaps not the proper use. However the workshop did teach us a little bit of a form of taiko drumming found in Okinawa."
Inv06[2] = "Lunch offered us a lot of free time, so we were stuck together for quite a while waiting for all the cameras to finish taking pictures of everyone from the TWO taiko groups at UCLA."
Inv06[3] = "I remember Saturday best for having eaten the best Mexican food I've eaten north of San Diego....hence the big smile on my face."
Inv06[4] = "Lunch was followed by more workshops. this is a workshop I believe my group didn't attend. Judging from the drums, it was an Okedo workshop."
Inv06[5] = "The Odaiko workshop... AAAH! When Rie told our group to have fun... I knew something bad was coming. although the workshop was excellent, I remember my arms dying that day - however, Courtney looks like she was having fun... right?"
Inv06[6] = "After dinner, we were sent to an auditorium for BATTLE ROYALE...! just kidding (...sigh). we did have to participate in a GAME SHOW! someone in Senryu dressed up as as a 70's era game show host, complete with receding hairline and potbelly."
Inv06[7] = "After that fun, we were directed to the barn (which was apparently closed) for dancing fun. sadly, there was no food for me to glut on and I got bored (after 10 seconds). However, we did manage to find ways to make the time go by... one of which was an ingenious game introduced by Jen M."
Inv06[8] = "One other way we passed the time was dancing. Sadly (yet again), I can only get hyphy (don't ask me what it means), but they only played socal music... from several trends ago. However, I did manage to make it up by taking pictures with other people."
Inv06[9] = "Sunday morning came... early. There was a Q and A panel for those who woke up early enough. I was detained someplace else, but i didn't mind so much... because I didn't miss out on talking to Michelle Fujii, the composer for Itsuka."
Inv06[10] = "We had much free time yet again, and this was one of the many pictures I took during that time."
Inv06[11] = "Practice mercifully came soon after. We ran through all the songs for Yukai... the last of which was Omiyage. Watching Stanford and Yukai play this wonderful, wonderful song made me realize that I must learn it sometime before I (not to be morbid) die."
Inv06[12] = "We had to spend a considerable amount of time in the dressing room, which we had to share with several groups. Don't worry, it's not as small as it looks."
Inv06[13] = "There were some of us that did have things to do (other than take many pictures). Here's a pic of Rie at slave labor... I mean, finishing up sashes for Omiyage."
Inv06[14] = "As performance time drew closer, we went to get our equipment ready for run-throughs. "
Inv06[15] = "Jana got interviewed for, I'm assuming it was a documentary for Invitational, I'm assuming this was before the run-through... the sun is still out. Looking good, Jana."
Inv06[16] = "...and then there was much weeping and hugging. We were treated to a rousing cheer by Mike and a teary speech from Yuta. It was no suprise that there were some that needed to fix their make-up. "
Inv06[17] = "Run through for Yukaina... I was terribly nervous."
Inv06[18] = "Run through for Omoide... I was moderately nervous for some of the soloists."
Inv06[19] = "Omiyage. At this point, all nervousness dissipated with much kiai-ing. They were very good... so good that my auditory nerves were in moderate ecstasy."
Inv06[20] = "Dear, sweet heaven, that's a lame pose. I don't really know what i was thinking. Apparently neither is Danny. I think most of us was feeling jittery at this point... so we unstressed ourselves by posing some more for the camera."
Inv06[21] = "Point of no return. Just waiting for our moment to shine..."
Inv06[22] = "...and shine we did. To celebrate, there was much groping of Richard, except for Hitomi who didn't do the let's grope Richard thing."
Inv06[23] = "The original Yukai, sans several people of course. Look at all those bright smiles."
Inv06[24] = "2nd generation Yukai. I'm glad that they're sticking around... cause the originals are ALL LEAVING...."
Inv06[25] = "The newbies. We were so good, they made us lie on the ground."
Inv06[26] = "Well, at least one of them is enjoying himself. The expression on Adam's face is so eloquent I just HAD to put this in."
Inv06[27] = "After more time in a waiting room, we exchanged hachimakis... said our goodbyes... gathered our equipment, and it was back to UCLA. In retrospect... it was a very good weekend... completely worth the 40 dollars that could have gone to a new pair of shoes."
